A study undertaken at Rutgers University in New Jersey has shown that older people who have broken their hip, and who don’t have enough vitamin D every day, were less able to walk 30 days after their surgery.

People who were taking enough vitamin D were better at walking, researcher Sue Shapses (a professor of nutritional sciences) said in the study release.

The test involved 300 retired Americans who had broken their hips and had surgery to repair damage.  Shapses also said that seniors should take 800 IUDs of vitamin D daily. She also confirmed that more study is needed to discover why vitamin D levels affect recovery from surgery an mobility.
