Drinking two or three cups a day is enough to reduce overall fat levels and especially the most dangerous abdominal fat, according to a test by Anglia Ruskin University.

The test is reported in the Journal of Nutrition, and analysed data from the USA. It found that in women 20-44, body fat dropped by 3.4% for coffee drinkers, and the reduction was over 4% for women aged 45-69.

The benefits were consistent whether the woman drank caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee.

There were also benefits for men, although not as great (aged 20-44, they had 1.3% less fat).
