A new review of previous studies has shown that there is a significantly lower risk of cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease (including stoke) and type 2 diabetes if you eat apples and pears.
Eating apples also reduced BMI (Body-mass Index) in the short-term and reduced cholesterol.
A trial published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition used 40 adults aged about 50. Half ate 2 Renetta Canada apples a day, while the other half drank an apple drink. After a gap, the groups then swapped.
The result was a clear reduction in total cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL cholesterol.
